Hey friends,

it's Lisa back on the blog today and I'm sharing a new summer project inspired by this month's mood board...

I love bright and colorful summer mood boards... they're so easy for me to find a good idea for my layouts... In this one, I got inspired by the colorful stripes, the quote and the parrots.

I started by using acrylic paints to paint my stripes on the lower left and upper right sides. I also created splashes of blue, pink and yellow color in the middle part of the paper and softened the edges around the stripes. When the mixed media was dry, I added some cold stripes on top and let them dry too.

While everything was drying, I took a white sheet of paper and drew my parrots, referring myself to the pictures on the mood board. I cut the different pieces out, traced them on different patterned papers, cut them out and pieced the birds together, adhering them to white paper.

I then pierced holes around almost every piece and then hand-stitched around them, using matching thread. When I was done, I cut them out, leaving a white border. I like leaving white borders, to make my pieces stand out from the background. Especially on this layout, with the super colorful mixed media, the white border helped the parrots stand out.

Then I chose my photo and matted it on orange and white paper.

For the title, I took the quote from the mood board, inserted it into my Silhouette programme and created a cutfile from it. I cut it out of bold pink patterned paper and then I created an offset that I cut out of white paper. I adhered the pink on top of the white and had my finished title.

I placed my birds and photo on the layout and adhered them to the background using foam tape. Then I also adhered my title, using mini foam squares. To finish the layout and make it even more fun, I went through my Bella embellishments and chose leaves, flowers and a sun to arrange around what I already had. I added some enamel dots and gold splatters, and I was done! :)
