Hello everyone. This is Sabrina for the Bella Blvd Digital Creative team. Today we are going to learn a fun new way to make a page. And a new year is the perfect time to challenge ourselves digitally! It will be fun, lets get started!
We will be making a layout inspired by the gorgeous frame paper in the Mind your Manners collection. In Photoshop Elements open a new blank file and make the size 12x12 at 300 dpi. Now you bring in all the frames- from the chipboard, the ephemera
and the frame paper. The ephemera has 3 frames and I dragged all of those onto the 12x12 canvas. The chipboard has 2 frames so put those on the canvas. My 12x12 canvas looked like this at the beginning:
Now comes the tricky part. We will be digitally cutting out the frames from the frame paper by using the wand tool and making a new layer with your selected frame. You will be using the magic wand tool or 'W' on PC to select the frames that you
want from the paper. You select the 'W' tool and click on the frame you want and dashed lines that look like marching ants will appear. Now zoom in to see the frame better. If there is 'marching ants' around the shape you want included in your new layer you need to hold down shift and deselect them.
See here in this gray frame there is a bunch of 'marching ants' around the tiny circles? All of those need to be deselected in order to get the frame exact.
After you have everything deselected you right click and pick the option 'layer via copy'. You will see that here in the screenshot with the blue frame below. Select that and then hide your frame paper. You now have a cut out frame from the paper and the second screenshot shows what you have after you selected 'layer via copy' and hid the original frame paper.
Now you can decorate your frames with various pieces from the Mind your Manners bundle. Here is some close ups from some of my frames. The close up on the left I added a piece of paper behind the frames and an epoxy sticker. The middle close up
has an owl and tab ephemera stacked on top of each other. Also, the flower frame is a daily details with the same flower from the ephemera stacked on top. Lastly, on the right I have a close up of a photo inserted into a frame and a square frame I copied and pasted onto my project.
Even though this layout takes a little bit of work, it is so fun to create and put together the different frames. I love the end of result and it was definitely worth the work of deselecting all those marching ants and piecing together a fun, interactive and colorful layout. Thank you for reading and hope you find this tutorial helpful in your digital scrapbooking!
