Happy Monday friends and welcome to a new week here on the Bella blog! This week the design team will be sharing lots of ideas and inspiration for the ALL NEW Bella Blvd Acrylic Words!
I'm excited to kick things off today with a quick and easy DIY cake banner that took no time at all to make but can be used over and over to help celebrate birthdays!
When I was first given the challenge to use the acrylic words for something other than scrapbooking, I will admit that it took me a while to settle on an idea. I mean you could adhere them to any photo frame, jewellery box, mirror or notebook cover and it would look adorable! I really wanted to show you something you could create easily but get a lot of use out of it.
Enter the cake banner.
You see, my method when creating birthday cakes is this: bake a delicious cake and keep the shape and frosting simple. Add embellishment on TOP of the cake!
I've make a small banner for a cake before but now with an acrylic word on there, it's taken it to a whole new level!
All you need is a couple of wooden skewers or sturdy straws and a hot glue gun. I adhered the acrylic word to the skewers with hot glue, running it down the longer side of the 'h' and 'h' so it was adhered very securely.
I then die cut a small double ended banner strip out of white cardstock and added the word 'birthday' using small black letter stickers. I again used hot glue to adhere this below the 'happy'.
Finally, I added more color and fun by creating a small length of triangle banners to string under my words and hot glued it to the skewers along with a colorful pom pom (removed from the Pom Pom Clips) to the top of each side!
It's simply matter of sliding it into your cake! And if you remove it and store it carefully, you will certainly be able to use it over and over again!
Imagine the possibilities of customizing this for a more feminine, masculine or baby feel! I kept mine quite colorful by using patterned papers from the Make Your Mark collection and I couldn't be more happy with how it turned out!
Hopefully I've inspired you with this little DIY project today!
