So I have a daughter who keeps looking through last year's Christmas photos with great nostalgia. It may be the reality that her older brother no longer lives at home and so things feel different this time of year. And...since there is nothing like a last minute gift, I decided to 'whip' up a little mini album for her.
This is Jamie, and today I want to share some ideas surrounding this album. But first off let's construct this cute 4-inch back to back mini. This album utilizes a back-to-back binding technique. I have included a quick video to show the details of how to put this 4-inch mini album together.
After the book pages are all put together, and photos are printed, it's time to just have some fun and embellish the pages and journal the story. Today I am happy to share some details about this book and some of my go-to practices when creating mini albums.
A few of the details that went into this book includes using the Illustrated Faith CHRISTmas Collection. One of the pages from the Clear Cuts Pad was used as an overlay for the opening page.
These pages are super easy to trim out and add to a little book such as this.
In the above video I showed how to adhere the pages together to create the back-to-back technique. For a few of these pages I left the top portion of the album page open so as to create a pocket. This Merry and Bright tag is tucked right inside that pocket. It is used for additional journaling on the back. Plus I just adore the way it pokes out the top of the mini.
One of the ways I created journaling space was by die cutting pieces of the Paper Pad into scalloped shapes. The B-side of each of those pattern papers is a solid that compliments every pattern paper in the CHRISTmas collection. Using solids like this is a great way to create homes for the oh so important journaling.
One of my favorite patterns to this collection is this one called Greatest Gift. It contains beautiful topography and requires not as much embellishment cause I just don't even want to cover that paper up. Sometimes less is more.
Here again I used one of the CHRISTmas Gift Tags for a spot of hidden journaling tucked inside the page pocket.
Another go-to technique found in a majority of the mini albums I create is to repeat pages. You will notice that on this solid white cardstock page I kept it very simple with the photo, plus that scalloped journal spot.
A strip of the Washi Sticker plus a few pieces from the Paper Pieces adorns the journal spot.
As far as the photos included in this album is concerned, they are all candids. This book is home to memories truly in the making. There are some differences to this Christmas this year than what is shown here. It reminds me how important it is to take even the random shots. Those possibly uninteresting photos. But in retrospect, they are found to contain a whole lot of memory and emotion.
And that is just what this mini album is all about. It's capturing the memory and emotion my oldest daughter felt when she would view these photos on my computer. Life is made of up moments. Capture them as best you can. They just may come in handy for a last minute Christmas gift.
