Kits. Often smallish collections of an assortment of products that work and play well together. The Illustrated Faith Starter Kit by Bella Blvd is just that. A boxed kit of getting started goods to help you leap into that world of Bible journaling.
Happy Sunday everyone! Jamie here. And I recently had the opportunity to play with the Illustrated Faith Starter Kit. Sometimes, especially if one is new to Bible journaling, limiting the number of items to work with in an effort to embellish out a journaling Bible page is just perfect. This kit not only makes a great gift (eh hem...did anyone say Christmas?), but it is a great way to simply start.
The Starter Kit was recently used while spending time in Psalm 16:11. One of my favorite verses.
Limiting myself to the products found in the kit, I found this a real doable way to add emphasis to this page in Psalm, and it did not take me forever.
The kit includes primary colors of acrylic paint. For this page I toned down the red with white acrylic paint, and also added a dab of yellow. This was scraped on the page with one of the Paint-It Application Cards. Now...don't be afraid of this. Truly. Practice makes better. So practice on a separate piece of paper until you are comfortable. This is not a precise technique anyway. So it's ok. Perfection is not what we are looking for here. OK? OK.
Here's a tip for you. A Bible Journaling Mat is also included in the kit. It is useful to place behind the page you are working on. I failed to do this this time. And I managed to get paint on other pages not intended for paint. So use that Bible Journaling. This is one of those times where I want you to do what I say, not as a do.
As for the actual embellishing of the page, like I said in my previous Illustrated Faith post, I just do what I know. I know scrapbooking and card making. So for my page I simply added a cluster of embellishment from the Flags, Alphabets and Shapes found in the kit. There is no re-creating the wheel here. Not even a little. This is simple and basic, friends. Simply enjoy the process.
One thing I am finding I like to have consistent with my pages is a tab at the top. This not only adds to the decor of my Journaling Bible, but also it's simply a marker as to where I have a completed page.
Another great item included in the Starter Kit are 5 Idea Starter Sheets. These sheets give ideas to help add to your Bible and continue to make it fun and creative.
This kit is a great way to start, or even help, your Bible Journaling journey. It's not too big, not too small. Plenty of words, flags, tabs plus paper pieces and even a pen. But that's not all. Be sure to check out more details HERE and please, enjoy this art form and the process.
