Hey there, Bella fans! Missy back with you today, and I’m so excited to bring you a fun layout today featuring one of the new collections, Oh My Stars! It’s so versatile, and I was immediately inspired by all the stars. Do you ever get inspired by something you see right away on a piece of patterned paper? I knew as soon as I saw all the fun rainbow colored papers with tiny white stars that I wanted to create a page using the “star” theme in some way. My favorite thing about this line is that it can be for girls or boys and just about any type of photo you have.
"Thank My Lucky Stars For You", by Missy Whidden.
I love using a rainbow color scheme, so I found a fun star cut file in my Silhouette library and cut several of them using most of the papers from the 6x8 Paper Pad. These pages are awesome because one side has the white stars and the back is just a solid color. I mixed and matched the stars (the outlines of the stars and the filled-in stars) all around the layout. I wanted to mix in pops of black, so I used a wide strip from the Exclusive Collection Kit Bonus Pattern paper at the bottom. The Borders paper is full of fun and colorful border patterns, so I used a few of those as well. I jazzed all that up with some white gesso and then used some oil pastels to add some smudges of color behind my photo. I also added some ink splatters in coordinating colors.
I love how the mixing and matching of the full stars with the outlines looks. The dimension turned out really neat because I didn’t glue the entire stars down. I did some machine stitching in white across the full stars for added interest and texture. The mix of color here is so awesome! I always love the bright colors Bella creates. I mixed and matched my title as well, using some Tiny Text alphas, some Homespun alphas, a word I cut on my Cameo and a die cut word.
Here you can see some of the background pastel work, which I smudged mostly with my fingers. Using the white gesso first helps the smudging process very well. I also used a strip of the new Washi Stickers strips. I can already tell I’m going to be using a lot more of that very soon!
Here’s another look at the fun texture created by the gesso, oil pastels & ink splatters. I added a bit of fun foam under my photo to give it some height, and this made is easier to tuck some tangled thread under it.
Check out this awesome Designer Clip! These are so fun to embellish with, and they slide right onto your photo or paper. I layered a few stickers over this one to brighten up that area. This collection contains a set of black & white clips and a set of brightly colored ones. You’ll also see that fun little blue tab. That’s yet another new product, and they’re called Tabbies. They’re awesome for adding to the sides of your photo like this.
Here’s one last look at the fun texture and dimension at the bottom of the layout. I hope this gives you some fun ideas you can try with this collection. Pull out your papers and see what jumps out at you. You can likely use that one paper’s design for your own layout. Try to get creative and see what you can come up with!
