With today being National Best Friends Day, we thought it was the perfect time to ask a few of our Creative Team members to create layouts focusing on the friendships that are important to them in their lives.
“Past Present Future”, by Gail Lindner.
I feel so lucky that my best friend is also my cousin! We grew up together and pretty much know what each other is thinking! I couldn’t wait to create a layout to celebrate our friendship!
I went through years and years of photos looking for photos of us together! As I was using photos that spanned many years, the colors in each of them were quite different of course. For unity on the layout I decided to convert them all too black and white. For the older photos (pre-digital) I simply scanned them in so I could edit them.
For my layout design, I lined up my photos across the centre of my page and added layers and fun embellishments to create the focal point. To break up the linear feel of my layout, I machine stitched a couple of circles, which also give me a place to sprinkle a few other embellishments for a pop of color!
For a fun twist, I transformed a couple of enamel circles to “buttons” by simply punching two holes in the centre to add my thread! I love the look of buttons on a layout and this is perfect as the enamel shapes are quite flat so won’t add too much bulk to my layout! I think you’ll be seeing this a lot more on my projects in the future!
As scrapbookers, I think we tend to focus on documenting the here and now and major events which is what it’s all about BUT it was so fun to take time out to pull out some older photos and document my best friend for this fun holiday!

"Together Again", by Jamie Pate.
National Best Friend Day is today! What a fun day for a great excuse to play with photos of your best friends. I am so deeply fortunate and blessed to have two very very good friends that date back all the way to high school. I took to gathering some highlights of years past and creating this page to celebrate this fabulous day.
For some reason I have been smart enough to keep these images fairly organized and so it was easy to collect a few of them, collage them, and print them out on an 8 1/2 x 11 piece of photo paper.
It was my desire to keep this layout straightforward so that the photos were the focus. I did this by using a simple background paper, like the Just Add Color Newsflash shown here. Then I grabbed a few Treasures & Text. I always love to have words on my pages. They make for great bullet point journaling. And that's what I did here.
The 'together' from the Ciao Chip Adventure sheet seemed ideal for titling this page. These moments documented here span from 1989-2008. The three of us friends live in various parts of the States. One on the West Coast, one in the South, and one in the Rockies. It's not always easy with kids and jobs to get together. So I love that this layout is just about that...being together...again. The 'together' chipboard was a perfect title.
Capture is indeed what we attempt to do. Early on we did not take as many photos. Now we take plenty. Photo focus is important to me to capture these stolen moments together. This cut-away card is from the Color Chaos Daily Details paper. I popped it up with double adhesive foam tape for this little image focus in the middle of my pictures. This is a great way to add detail to a collage of photos, without taking away from the photos themselves.
So...what about you...do you have a best friend or two to celebrate today? I really hope you do. Take time as a maker and create a page that celebrates them, your moments through the years, and the importance of being together. You won't regret it.
