“Adventure Awaits”, by Missy Whidden.
Hey, friends! How often do you use an electronic die cutting machine to create embellishments for your layouts? I pulled out these travel photos of me and my husband on a plane a few months ago and the idea of using airplanes on my page just came to me. I used a lot of the Let’s Go collection for this, and I used several of the patterned papers to create a few small airplanes. I searched through the Silhouette Store and found the perfect plane and then cut a few of them. I also love creating abstract landscapes on my pages. I thought since we were about to be in the air, it would be fun to create a sky effect with some clouds. The blue watercolor on the light grey background also makes the yellows and oranges really pop off the page.
I love the Bella chipboard words! I had to use this “adventure” piece here, and I used some blue gelatos and my finger to smudge some color onto the bottom of the letters. I added pop dots to create some dimension, and I think it made such a big difference. I also added some orange thread. I usually find the color red hard to use, but this collection made it fun. I added a few red pieces around the page, including some Tiny Text alphas as part of my title.
Here are a few of those die cut planes I mentioned earlier. I layered them on top of this cute earth die cut and stitched through them with my sewing machine. I felt like there needed to be a bit of yellow and red down in this area, so I added thread, stitching and an enamel heart.
Creating a fun sky effect is pretty easy with these cute clouds. There are a lot of them in this collection…both chipboard and paper die cuts. Adding machine stitching through the chipboard pieces gives such a great look, plus it adds a fun texture. I also added a cloud die cut I’ve had sitting on my desk for a long time. Do you have bits and pieces like that sitting around that you have yet to use?
I created lots of layers around my photos, including a few bits of paper, a few die cuts and some enamel dots. Here you can also see the watercolor. I used lots of Shimmerz sprays with some plastic packaging and a water brush. I also added some splatters with the nozzle.
I would love to see you try and use customized die cuts on your layouts and also create a fun watercolor landscape of some sort. With all of the fun Bella collections containing flowers, the zoo and travel, a sky or grass would be fun to create using watercolors. There are so many fun possibilities!
