"Oh Summer", by Missy Whidden.
If you’re like me, you probably love using some kind of electronic die-cutting machine to create fun designs for your layouts. Sometimes I get so into digital cut files that I forget I have a big collection of punches! They can create awesome designs for your pages, too, and that was what I challenged myself to do for this layout. I pulled out several different sized square punches and lots of fun patterned paper and starting creating squares. I came up with a fun grid design and worked it around my photo.
I started with this color photo of my daughter in the pool. I love the soft blue color in the water and the pretty colors in her suit. I pulled out a sheet of light mint cardstock and went through all my Bella papers and found lots of different pinks, oranges and yellows. I love how these colors contrast with the minty aqua. I darkened up the background a little bit by first adding some white gesso and then coming in with a few blue & aqua watercolors. I like having a variation in color on the background, especially for layouts about water!
This Ciao Chipboard piece was perfect for part of my title. I used a pink, orange and yellow gelato and my finger to create this fun sunset ombre look. I just used my finger to smudge the colors together. The best thing about these chipboard pieces is they’re white so you can color them in so many different ways. I mixed and matched the rest of my title with Treasures & Text alphas from Sweet Baby Girl and some Tiny Text Alphas.
I am in love with the Bella Clear Cuts! These awesome dotted overlays are perfect for adding fun circle accents to your pages. I used three different colors, and I love the look they give. I punched them just like paper and it worked wonderfully. I also stitched through them, and that worked great, too.
I added some aqua tangled thread under my photo for some added color and texture. I also added several yellow Enamel Hearts from the Illustrated Faith line. They are the sweetest little detail and add great pops of color all over the layout.
Here’s one more look at the squares, stitching, thread and photo area. Another fun accent you could do is add small stickers to your photo. I love hearts or stars, and it’s fun to overlap them and let them hang off the edge of the picture. This is something to consider when you’re taking your photographs Leave a little bit of white space if you want to add something to it later.
I hope this gives you some ideas for using your punches and adding fun little details to your design!
