Happy {inter} National Scrapbook Day everyone! We have so much to share with you today, so we hope you'll keep popping in throughout your day. I challenged all of our designers to create an "All About Me" layout, giving us a peek into a little part of their lives. Each of them also answered five quick scrapbooking related questions. We will be sharing these layouts, hour by hour today. And with two giveaways added in, we’re bringing you 12 hours of posts! So sit back, grab a snack, and get to know our designers just a little bit more, and hopefully their projects will inspire you the next time you go to create!
“Hello I’m Weird”, by Missy Whidden.
Sometimes it’s fun to step outside the box and scrap a layout about yourself. If you’re like me, you usually scrap about your children or families, so this was a lot of fun! As I looked at this picture of myself and did some reflection, I decided to incorporate all my favorite things on my page. I created lots of fun circles using various patterned papers and Clear Cuts & Invisibles. I used some watercolors along with circles and stitching, and I used really bright colors. All of these techniques are “me,” and they showcase my craziness and weirdness…haha! I ran across a quote on one of the Just Add Color papers. It read “Whatever makes you weird is probably your best feature.” I was inspired by that to create my title.
I used some yellow and teal watercolors on my white cardstock first and then created my grid of circles. I stitched through each row with black thread. I used a few gelatos to color “hello” which is a Ciao Chip piece. I added some black tangled thread behind it to make it stand out a bit more. I fussy cut “wddeird” from the patterned paper and paired it with some black Tiny Text. I love how versatile those are!
I love how easy the Clear Cuts worked with my circle punch. They punched very easily, and I just love how this text looks on the white cardstock. The pops of black really make all the bright colors stand out. The yellow flower piece here is from one of the Invisibles. I cut those with scissors since they’re thicker and didn’t work with the punch. I just traced and cut, and it worked great.
Here’s a look at the top of the photo area. I just love how so many of the Bella collections and papers coordinate with each other. I used several collections for this page, and they all look so nice mixed together.

Missy’s Q&A
- What are your top 5 supplies/products that you cannot scrap without?
I don’t think I could scrap without gesso and watercolors! They are my all-time favorite mixed media products. I’d also say thread, patterned paper and my Cameo. Gosh, it’s hard to only pick five!
- What do you listen to while you scrap? TV, music, or do you do your best work in silence?
I usually listen to scrapbook process videos, or sometimes I’ll play one of my favorite TV shows or movies on my computer. I just finished watching Beverly Hills, 90210 again (ssshhhhh!). I like to have something going in the background while I work.
- What is your favorite go-to technique or design element when creating?
I would say mixed media techniques. I love using gesso, watercolors, gelatos and paint. I love using them in different ways—“smooshing” with plastic packaging, using a water brush, using stencils…I love creating that watercolor look. I also love adding die cuts using my Cameo.
- When do you do your best scrapping? Are you a morning scrapper, a late night scrapper, or do you find time during the day?
I do my best scrapping during the day. I tend to scrap in spurts, so I get it in when I can. I do a lot of filming for process videos, so the natural light from outside helps with that. Plus, I like to relax with the family at night and take a break.
- When the creativity isn't flowing, what do you do to get back into your creative zone?
I like to surf Pinterest, Instagram or fellow scrapbookers’ blogs for inspiration. There are so many fabulous scrappers out there, and I see gorgeous work every single day. Sometimes I see a design on a piece of clothing and it instantly inspires me. And sometimes, I find that just taking a break helps me to get the mojo back.
Your layout is really fun. Great job!!!
