Welcome to Trending Thursday, where we pick something we are seeing trending within the scrapbooking industry and ask our designers to focus on that trend as they create their projects to share with you. This week we are focusing on glitter!
“Love This Moment”, by Nicole Nowosad.
I thought some glitter would be cute on the new Clear Cuts gold confetti paper, so I used my diecut machine to cut double sided adhesive sheets and then add to the Clear Cut paper. Once the double sided adhesive was there, I sprinkled with gold glitter and voila - glitter Clear Cuts! The glitter adds just the right amount of sparkle to the bottom of the page.

"Little Cutie Patooti", by Stephanie Buice.
Glitter is such an easy way to add a little bit of added interest and texture, a little pop of it here and there can really go a long way. Because this is a boy layout I kept the glitter neutral colors like grey and white to keep it from coming off as girly or feminine. I added glitter yardstick to each of the outer squares and formed a border within my grid for the picture, I pulled from different kinds of letters and fonts for my title to give it a fun feel.
Supplies:
Color Chaos: Bell Pepper Strandz, Guacamole Strandz, Scallop Strandz, Daily Details, Words of Wisdom; Simply Spring: Daily Details; Tiny Tots: Chipboard Icons; Ciao Chipboard: Borders; High Five Alphabets: Black-White
“Spring Chickadee” card, by Laurie Schmidlin.
I absolutely love to add glitter to my cards! One of my favorite ways is to add some clear, chunky glitter to the outer edges. I especially like to do this when the colors I am using are soft and pastel, like the ones in the Simply Spring collection! I created a little tag to fit inside the mini bag on my card. I decorated with Simply Spring Ciao Chip Icon pieces and some coordinating stickers. For the glitter, I applied it when my card was all finished but not yet glued onto my card base. I use a very strong adhesive that dries clear like Diamond Glaze, sprinkle on the glitter, and then let it dry completely before finishing my card.
Supplies:
Simply Spring: Hippity Hop, Daily Details, Spring Patchwork, Chipboard Icons, Treasures & Text; Enamel DooDads: Punch
“You're the Best” card, by Laurie Schmidlin.
Another way that I like to add glitter to my cards is to completely cover one or more elements. Again, I use a clear glitter but make sure it is fine instead of chunky so that the paper material you use it on still shows through. I decided to cover the large heart I added in the background. I die cut the heart from some Gulf Strandz paper, covered it with a light layer of glue (I used a Zig large glue pen) and then sprinkled on the glitter. Once it was dry, I assembled my card using coordinating Color Chaos embellishments and some Chit Chat Invisibles paper.
Supplies:
Color Chaos: Gulf Strandz, Daily Details; Invisibles: Chit Chat; Amorie Chipboard Alpha: McIntosh
“Smile Today” card, by Diana Fisher.
I love the idea of using glitter on only a single part of a larger pattern. For this card, I used gold glitter on a rain cloud to juxtapose the rainy scene with a bright moment. This is a great way to send a smile or hopeful wish to someone who is having a hard time.
Supplies:
Simply Spring: Eggstravaganza, Dancing in the Rain; Color Chaos: Scallop Strandz
“Having Fun” card, by Diana Fisher.
The starry night scene on this fun pattern paper was just begging for glitter on the stars. It makes them twinkle and gives a subtle little shimmer to the overall card.
Supplies:
Campout: Under the Stars, Borders, Chipboard Icons, Trinkets; Star Student: Brainiac; Color Chaos: Pickle Juice Strandz
