Welcome to Monday Morning Challenge, where we offer up a challenge, and share with you our designers take on that challenge. Today we asked our designers to incorporate squares into their project designs in an interesting way.
“Best Buds”, by Kay Rogers.
I used squares on this layout into a bigger square to embellish. It's so much easier for me to embellish a small area than a whole page! These pictures of my daughter and my great-nephew were found on my phone ... what a treasure!
Supplies:
Tiny Tots: Toy Chest, Watch Me Grow, Love to Learn, One Fish Two Fish, Sweet and Sassy, Treasures & Text, Trinkets, Paper Pieces, Chipboard Icons
"Give Thanks", by Jennifer Edwardson.
I love being asked to create a layout based on a certain theme. Squares is such a great one, and though it seems simple, I tend to forget about using basic shapes like this, so this layout was fun and easy to put together. These photos from a few years back were both 4 x 6 vertical pics so they were easy to crop to 4 x 4" to work with the theme. I matted each on a larger 4 1/2 x 4 1/2" patterned paper mat and raised them semi-centered on my woodgrain base. I then cut different sized squares from multiple pieces from the Hello Autumn collection and adhered them flat and raised throughout the rest of my layout. My favorite how well the cloud paper works with Alex's blue jacket! I added stickers here and there, a mixed alpha title and even a button with twine to finish it off. I LOVE this collection and can't wait to use it for all my Fall photos from this year too!
Supplies:
Hello Autumn: Gatherings, Daily Details, Day Dream, Perfect Pick, Falling Into Fall, Paper Pieces, Trinkets, Treasures & Text; Simply Simona Chipboard Alphas: Orange
“May Your Days Be Merry” card, by Shellye McDaniel.
I started with one of the Daily Details' 2X2 squares as my inspiration and used it as the center piece for the snowman. Next, I cut a 1/2" larger and smaller piece for the top and bottom. The scarf was created by folding a piece of narrow ribbon in half and the arms are two of the letter "L" from the Ciao Chip alphabet stickers!
Supplies:
Christmas Cheer: Making Spirits Bright, Christmas Crew, Daily Details, Treasures & Text, Paper Pieces; Sienna Chipboard Alphas: Ice
“Thinking Of You” card, by Shellye McDaniel.
The inspiration for this card was a quilt pattern that I found on Pinterest! I cut two of the same sized squares and then cut the middle out of each, making a frame. To one of the frames I cut a small slit and then wove it around the other square in an over-and-under method.
Supplies:
Hello Autumn: Gatherings, Falling Into Fall, Daily Details, Trinkets, Treasures & Text; Button Market: Merlot Flowers
Love love love love these! LOVING Shellye's square snowman!! Toooooooo cute!!!!!
