Bella Blvd & Kiwi Lane Designs Team Up: Day Four

“Three's Company”, by Kelly Holbrook.

I used a single border on 5 different patterned papers, layered them together, and trimmed off the ends. Keeping the background white, so the colors would pop, I built the rest of my page up from there. For a little added detail, I punched and doodled some hearts in a few of the layers.

“Snow Angels”, by Kelly Holbrook.

I used the templates with the Christmas Cheer collection for a fun winter themed layout. I used 5 different templates on five different patterned papers, and stitched them down for a background. I decided to put the wavy sides down, so that the white cardstock peeking through might resemble rolling snow hills.

“Baby Bee” card, by Kathy Martin.

Oh how I adore the Tiny Tots collection with all its colorful prints, cute animals and this chubby little bee! For this card I used one Kiwi Lane’s Tiny Accessory Accents to cut around this bee to use as my focal point. I love the way these templates are clear and make it easy to do that!

“25^th” card, by Kathy Martin.

Christmas and stars go together like peanut butter and jelly, peas and carrots and Bella Blvd. and Kiwi Lane! Combining the Christmas Cheer collection along with Kiwi Lane’s Tiny Accessory star I created this colorful layered Christmas greeting.

“Beach” mini album, by Shellye McDaniel.

Whether it's a vacation to the beach, a cruise or a trip to the aquarium, the Paradise Accessory templates will aid you in making the cutest, quickest mini album to help capture the memories! I began by cutting the shapes twice from various Tiny Tots patterned papers. Next, I ran the top pages through my Xyron 9" Creative Station and then adhered each of them to their matching shape. When it came to printing the photos, I chose the wallet size option on my printer and then used different sized circles punches to cut them out...this made the perfect size for the mini album! Embellish with various Tiny Tots stickers, buttons, flags and more fun stuff from Bella Blvd.

I loved using the template to quickly give the top of my otherwise linear layout a little life. I love the colors of fall, and inked the edges to give that distressed look like the leaves.

I love these pics of my youngest daughter and my son-in-law having a sword fight with sticks. Wanted the accent in the photos, and used a template to ground my journaling.

“The Boo Crew”, by Nicole Nowosad.

The fun zig-zag chevron template in the Kiwi Lane Delight Card Border pack was perfect to add some detail to the right side of my page. I simply traced the patterns onto the paper and layered them up the one side of the page.

Christmas Lists Notebook, by Laurie Schmidlin.

With so many different things to keep track of, I thought it would be fun to have a place to keep them all together! My solution was to create a sweet little notebook for that purpose! I started by choosing some coordinating patterned papers for the background. I used the small oval from the Tiny Shapes set from Kiwi Lane for the vellum tag under the chipboard sentiment. On the chipboard tree, I added some glitter to the ornaments. For the finishing touch, I used the small scalloped border from the Card Borders set from Kiwi Lane to create the border on the side of my notebook.

Christmas Spinner Ornament, by Shellye McDaniel.

You have probably seen the metal version of this Spinner Ornament! I've used the "Rings Framing Templates" by Kiwi Lane and a couple of papers and accessories from the new Christmas Cheer Collection. To start, trace each of the ring shapes (and inner circle of each) twice. Carefully cut out the circles and inner circle; reserve the inner circle for the next circle. Adhere the two, same-sized circles together and sand around the edges if desired. Once you have all of the circles cut, punch a 1/8" hole at the 12:00 and 6:00 positions of each circle. String through a length of baker's twine starting with the smallest circle and loop through the next circle. Repeat the process for the bottom holes. Embellish as you wish and enjoy hanging in a window or as a mobile for baby's room!

For this Layout I used the Kiwi Lane Cascade Trails stencils. I chose one of the shapes and decided that I only wanted to use part of it, I liked the end part of one of them because it kind of mimicked waves which was perfect for my bath tub layout.

“Your Smiles Are Contagious”, by Stephanie Buice.

For this layout I used the Kiwi Lane Cascade Trails stencils, I simply layered one of the pieces over my different pattern papers traced and cut. I made some of my “waves” thicker than the others to give the bottom of my layout more balance. This picture of my nephew Hudson is one of my new favorites and it matches so nicely with any of the Bella colors. Because I did not have the colors I wanted in the High Five Alphas, I simple used my Copics to color white ones, worked like a charm.

“XOXO”, by Nicole Nowosad.

I was drawn to the heart shape in the Kiwi Lane Tiny Sweetheart Accessory Pack. I traced the template to the back of some cardstock and trimmed the designs out, lining the back with several Bella Blvd. patterned papers! Using the template was great as I could determine where to place the hearts and didn’t have to fuss with any software.

I love that the Tiny Tots collection contains papers for both girls and boys! Even though I have four sons and tend to use more masculine papers, it's a nice change of pace to create for some girls! I kept my background white so that the bright, fun colors of this collection would really pop! I used both the small and large oval stencil (from the Tiny Accessory pack from Kiwi Lane) to create the patterned paper ovals. I layered on some stickers, a notebook paper from the Paper Pieces pack, and a Crochet Heart.

"I Speak For The Trees", by Leanne Allinson.

Recently, my son was determined to go to Book Week at school, dressed as the Lorax. It's such a whimsical character, that I just had to exaggerate my layout with wavy lines created from the Kiwi Lane templates. I started with tracing and trimming thin strips of wavy lines and then matched them to the curve of the 'Falling into Fall' patterned paper, on the reverse side. To exaggerate the lines even further, I hand stitched along the middle of the strip with hot pink embroidery floss. I was then able to add my title and text to my layout, by following these same lines. And since my 8 year old was going about the house quoting his Book Week character, the Ciao Chip Trees were the perfect embellishment to finish my page.

"Happy Halloween" card, by Leanne Allinson.

The Halloween Magic collection is so much fun and full of fabulous details, this card virtually made itself! I just needed to add a leading line to the main element on the card - the fussy cut vampire. Using the Kiwi Lane small template, I situated the curve so the vampire image is grounded by the neutral patterned paper.

"Thanksgiving" card, by Leanne Allinson.

I wanted to create a paper landscape on this card and using the small and large Kiwi Lane templates with orange colored patterned papers, hopefully I've achieved this illusion. I've highlighted the curves with hand stitching and finished the card by placing a chipboard pumpkin embellishment, at the bottom of the field.

The Kiwi Lane Tiny Accessory Accents and Card Borders are the perfect size for greetings and the flower shapes worked beautifully with all the wood grain prints of Bella Blvd’s new Hello Autumn collection! I combined the three to create this multi-layered Thanksgiving greeting.

I don’t know what it is about stars that I’m so drawn to lately, but I love that Bella Blvd. has so many great star prints in their collections and Kiwi Lane’s Tiny Accessory Accents included a star for accenting this Halloween greeting. It’s perfect for using as-is or topping with another accent as I did here with this adorable Dracula.

Trends: Metallic

Welcome to Trending Thursday, where we pick something we are seeing trending within the scrapbooking industry and ask our designers to focus on that trend as they create their projects to share with you. This week we are focusing on metallic!

"Beauty Of Autumn", by Nicole Nowosad.

When I thought of gold and which Bella Blvd collection to use, I was immediately drawn to the new Hello Autumn line! The color of gold pairs so great with the richness of the colors in this collection. I used the chipboard alphas from the Hello Autumn line and heat embossed them with some gold embossing powder to alter their color to the gold. I also cut some sketchy circles in my Cameo and gold embossed them to layer under circle punched pieces of paper from the collection!

“October”, by Katie Rose.

I think gold goes perfectly with the new Hello Autumn collection. I choose to add touches of gold using some gold glitter card stock. I cut the quote using my Silhouette Cameo and then punched a couple of stars and a border strip with punches to tie the gold in a little more with the rest of the layout. I ran out of o's when spelling October with the chipboard letters so i substituted the adorable chipboard pumpkin for one of the o's. I think it ends up being my favorite part of the layout.

Sometimes just adding a little gold goes a long way. I layered lots of beautiful elements from Hello Autumn then put a touch of gold with the enamel dots around the owl and sentiment.

“Celebrate Christmas” card, by Ashley Marcu.

Creating a scene with the chipboard and sticker pieces is so fun! I grounded the Christmas tree, reindeer and sentiment with some decorative tape and a little gold cardstock to add some shine.

What's New Wednesday

Welcome to "What's New Wednesday"! Every Wednesday, our designers will be sharing projects using the latest and greatest products from Bella Blvd. Especially our newest collections, which our designers are having so much fun creating with!

“Thankful for You”, by Wendy Antenucci.

I had the Hello Autumn collection laying on my desk from my Project Life Weeks 1 & 2 and this cute picture of my son and so I started creating. I love to multi-task and often create a few things at one time because I put bits and pieces that are leftover right onto the next project. When I finally finish the next project it doesn't take me much time because most of the work is done! I grabbed a leftover 3x4 card that fit what I wanted to say about my son and some fun border strips to ground the group. TIP: I cut my smaller leftovers into 3x4s and 4x6s because they work really well for layering on layouts. I grabbed one of my 4x6 cuts and tucked it behind my picture block. I added the pops of orange next; even though my son's shirt was red the orange worked well enough and looked great on the woodgrain. I used the scallop sticker (cut down) to house my title and a sentiment sticker also. I was able to stack the chipboard pumpkins because I pulled off some of the backing from the bottom pumpkin. I love to add color to the top and bottom of my layouts, to me it seems to finish them up and plus I love clouds!

"Family", by Jamie Harder.

Fall is my favorite season and the perfect time to capture family moments! I cannot get enough of the Hello Autumn collection. The colors and embellishments are perfect to scrapbook all my fall photos!

“Autumn Love” card, by Kathy Martin.

Oh my my, the Hello Autumn collection is awesome with its rich fall color pallet and beautiful leafy prints! I got just a little carried away with this card adding this and adding that. I love mixing lots of elements and colors and to do this without the card looking too busy I make sure the colors contrast instead of blend. It makes each piece of the card stand out. The hearts for example look like three different pieces. If I hadn’t used contrasting colors they might seem like a single layer or piece.

Creating with Bella Blvd’s Tiny Tots collection makes me so happy! Seriously adorable animals, alphabet soup, and bright eye catching colors make this line so fun to play with! And I had a lot of fun creating this card for you! How can one not smile looking at this happy frog and cuddly lion? Although I no longer have a tot in the house, but I can always use a collection like this to make kid cards for nieces, nephews, etc!

Altered Projects: 12 x 12 Calendar

Today we have a fun altered project to share with you. When we released the Classic Calendars colletion, we knew it wouldn't be too long before one of our designers would create an amazing year-long calendar using the calendar papers. And Jen Chesnick has done just that! 

2015 Calendar, by Jen Chesnick.

Hi everyone! Jen Chesnick here today with a special project using the Classic Calendars collection. When this line came out I knew I needed to make a full size calendar. It took me a couple months, but I finally finished it! To start I sorted 12 photos and ordered prints at 12x12”. I attached the photos to the backsides of the calendar papers. When you are building it, keep in mind which way the photos will face once the page is flipped!  

Once I had all my pages completed I took my calendar down to Kinkos and had them bind it for me! I don't have a binding machine, so this was totally perfect. It cost me $4 and some change and it was done in an hour. I hope you like it and create your own 2015 master piece!

Friday Sketch: Layouts

Who doesn't love a good sketch? It helps to take the guesswork out of the page and/or card design, but still allows you to put your own spin on things just be turning the sketch or altering it here and there. A few times a month, we'll be bringing you a new sketch, and showing you a few takes on the sketch by our designers. Today, we have our first sketch for September, courtesy of Becky Fleck.

“Fall Favorite”, by Becki Adams.

Sketches with a grid design are always a favorite of mine. I tend to follow them more closely and always love the results more than I think I will. I followed this sketch very closely I only changed a couple of small details. I made the line down the layout thicker, with a scalloped border sticker, and a zig zag stitch down the center for some added texture.

“Merry Christmas”, by Jennifer Chapin.

This was such a fun sketch to work with! I hadn't got a chance yet to work with the Christmas Cheer collection and knew I had to get some holiday photos from last year scrapped. I stuck pretty close to the sketch for this layout, printing my photos at 2"x2" and adding to rectangles of cardstock for the Polaroid look. I also thought the bottom left corner looked a little bare so I typed up my journaling and added it there.

“My Cousin, My Friend”, by Allyson Meinholz.

I truly enjoyed working with this sketch. I loved all of the little polaroid’s in the sketch. I decided to use the Tiny Tots collection. With all of the fun and bright colors, it was perfect for these playful pictures of my daughter and my niece. They are truly 2 peas in a pod. I did stay true to this sketch except for the one photo on the side. It was one of my favorites, and I couldn't leave it out or crop it.
