Who doesn't love a good sketch? It helps to take the guesswork out of the page and/or card design, but still allows you to put your own spin on things just be turning the sketch or altering it here and there. A few times a month, we'll be bringing you a new sketch, and showing you a few takes on the sketch by our designers. Today, we have our second sketch for September, courtesy of Becky Fleck.
“Christmas Cheer” card, by Ashley Marcu.
This sketch was so fun to work with! The Paper Pieces Die Cuts were the perfect focal point for this card. I turned the label in to a tag to match the sketch and I love the results!
Supplies:
Christmas Cheer: Happy Hearts, Reindeer Cheer, Paper Pieces
“Spooky Celebration” card, by Ashley Marcu.
I rotated the sketch to make a vertical card. I needed a longer tag to fit under the sentiment label. To do this, I cut the tag, then adhered it sticking out of both sides of the label. Now it fits the design just right!
Supplies:
Hello Autumn: Borders, Perfect Pick; Halloween Magic: Paper Pieces, Treasures & Texts, Trinkets; Designer Tape: Blue Chevron
“Give Thanks” card, by Sheri Feypel.
I created this card following the sketch pretty closely, keeping it pretty simple without a lot of bulk making it easy to mail out to loved ones. I trimmed down a Saffron Feather and slipped it behind the die cut circle to add a pop of color to the card. I then topped it all off with a bit of natural twine accented with the little acorn sticker from the Trinkets sticker sheet.
Supplies:
Hello Autumn: Gatherings, Borders, Daily Details, Time To Rake, Paper Pieces, Trinkets; Feathers: Saffron
“Thank You” card, by Sheri Feypel.
For this card, I again followed the sketch. This time just not as strictly, I like to put my own spin on sketches now and then. I love this little own on the Daily Details sheet and knew that he had to be the focal point of my card. I tucked a couple of feathers behind him as well as a heart sticker from the Treasures & Text sheet.
Supplies:
Hello Autumn: Time To Rake, Borders, Daily Details, Gatherings, Treasures & Text; Feathers: Orange, Gulf
“Happy Halloween” card, by Diana Fisher.
For my card, I turned the sketch vertical instead of horizontal. I kept pretty true to the bottom pattern paper and the left-of-center main image. Instead of an image and a sentiment, I chose to make the main image the whole sentiment. The ruffled area indicated on the sketch is represented on the card with some folds of designer tape.
Supplies:
Halloween Magic: Daily Details, Chipboard Icons; Designer Tape: Chevron Combo
“Harvest” card, by Diana Fisher.
This card is also turned vertically from the horizontal sketch. There are more background layers on my card than in the sketch and I left off the ruffled strip. Instead, for texture, I used a piece of twine. The main image and sentiment are still kept left of center and are the predominant focus of the card.
Supplies:
Hello Autumn: Time to Rake, Gatherings, Borders, Daily Details
“Keep Calm & Smile On” card, by Morgan Bandkowski.
I copied the sketch exact on this card. I used the arrow border strip instead of ribbon which matches the arrows on the scalloped circle.
Supplies:
Snapshots: Rise & Shine, Borders, Hurry Up, Alpha+Bits
“Hello Sunshine” card, by Morgan Bandkowski.
I decided to flip the sketch on its side for this card. I used the designer tape in place of a ribbon. I love the clean crisp lines of the black, white & yellow.
Supplies:
Family Forever: Family Game Night; Summer Squeeze: Daily Details; Scattered Sprinkles: Just Write Journaling Stickers; Designer Tape: Chevron Combo Pack
These are fabulous! LOVING the Santa on Ashley's first card!!!!!
