Who doesn't love a good sketch? It helps to take the guesswork out of the page and/or card design, but still allows you to put your own spin on things just be turning the sketch or altering it here and there. Twice a month, we'll be bringing you a new sketch, and showing you a few takes on the sketch by our designers. Today, we have our second sketch for November, courtesy of Becky Fleck.
“Christmas” card, by Diana Fisher.
When looking at the sketch, I knew I wanted to make a vertical card with the horizontal sketch. With the circles, I wanted to create three levels and focal points that were on the left-side of the card. The Christmas Countdown collection was perfect for creating a wintery scene with three focal points.
Supplies:
Christmas Countdown: Borders, City Sidewalks, Believe, Tabs, Alpha+Bits
“Thanks” card, by Diana Fisher.
With fall winding down, I wanted to make one last fall-themed card. I used circles in a variety of sizes and textures to represent the circles on the sketch. A "thanks" pennant adds a fun sentiment to the card.
Supplies:
Thankful: Homey, Borders, Our Spot, Alpha+Bits
“Awesome” card, byShellye McDaniel.
This card was inspired by the blooms on this month's sketch. I just trimmed my design to two flowers instead of three. For the stems, I adhered a strip of Pickle Juice Dot Designer Tape to a piece of cardstock and then cut into thin pieces. The blooms were a layer of die cuts from a mix of patterned papers and a few stickers. A happy bee adds a little extra whimsy. And what is a flower without a bee!
Supplies:
Play Date: Captions; Trick or Treat: Spooky Town; Snapshots: Daily Details, Rise & Shine, Pajama Day, Alpha+Bits; Designer Tape: 12 mm Combo
“Night Before Christmas” card, by Shellye McDaniel.
I replaced the flowers with a trio of hand-cut houses from the City Sidewalks paper! After stitching a 'hill' onto a blue background, I added the houses with foam adhesive. Above one of the chimneys I hand-stitched a plume of smoke with white thread and small needle. I kept with the design of the sketch by adding a zig-zag border sticker and sentiment.
Supplies:
Christmas Countdown: City Sidewalks, O Tannebaum, Captions, Alpha+Bits; Trick or Treat: Captions
