"This & That Together", by Leanne Allinson.
Hello Bella friends! It's Leanne here today sharing a fun idea to help celebrate National "Ampersand" Day!! Who doesn't like an ampersand or two? I personally love them! They work wonders in titles but as a stand-alone feature they can be magic!!
For this layout I wanted to express the togetherness of my youngest two children. A "togetherness" that comes more in the form of sibling rivalry! I wanted the ampersand to be a loud feature and so I chose the bold orange Hocus Pocus print from the Halloween Magic collection. To create a depth of layers on my page, I first cut out the ampersand shape from my cardstock using an available font from my silhouette library. It was resized to be large and positioned slightly off center.
In the past when I've created layouts with large silhouette cut backgrounds, I've generally teamed them up with hand stitching all the way around the outside edge. For this page, I wanted to create a faux shadow layer which is indicated by small rows of stitching on one side of the cut file. Not only does the stitching add to the depth of layers but it subtly emphasizes the ampersand feature.
I've layered part of the title directly on top of the ampersand cut file. The Ciao Chip Item from the Adventure pack, was brushed with a single swipe of orange watercolor paint, using a flat, wide brush, and while still part of the packaging. After allowing it to dry, the ombre effect on the chipboard grounds the title and cut file to the cardstock base.
As an extra incentive to help celebrate National Ampersand Day, I've used a metal die cut and created several mini ampersands from the Bella Blvd Trick or Treat collection. These tend to represent the repetitive nature of "if he can, then I can too" spirit between brothers! And just in case I haven't made that idea clear enough, I've actually added the word "repeat" as my subtitle.
To complete my layout, I've typed up my journaling and added it directly to the back of my page. I really don't want to miss out on recording these fun and somewhat crazy moments!
So, what do you think? Making a feature out of an ampersand can help kick start any story you want to document. Why not try a "Now & Then", or like I have, a "This & That" page. The opportunities are endless! Thanks for visiting today.
