Happy Friday Friends! Welcome back to another installment of December Documenting! Today, along with the first four days in December, I will share a few details on creating album inserts using Clear Cuts and Tags. These are the fun details that help make your album interactive and are often readily available in your stash!
On a side note however, in the theme of keeping it simple and achievable during this busy season, when editing my photos, I've started to add journaling directly to the image while still in Photoshop. To be able to break down the process into manageable steps helps me complete my pages quickly. One less additional step at the end of the day equals winning! Yes, I still have the journaling to do, but I don't have to drag my typewriter out or create a journaling card for the story to be written on.
I have also discovered that documenting my stories comes easier if I share an image of the moment as well as the words I want to capture, via Facebook or Instagram. The journaling doesn't need to be insightful, but if you struggle to complete a page daily, having a place to come back to at the end of the week where all of your stories have been shared, then you are halfway to completing your album without even knowing it!
Clear Cut inserts | Stars Black
I really love using the 12x12 Clear Cut Sheets. They are so versatile and easy to trim to any size you require for your album. Once you have measured and trimmed them to size, the inserts create a peek-a-boo effect to the page behind!
Here's the how to:
step 1. Using a pocket page sleeve as your guide, trim the Clear Cut sheet to size.
step 2. Align the sleeve and the insert which will allow you to punch album ring holes in the same position.
step 3. Using a small circle punch, mark and trim the corners above and below where the album ring holes have been punched.
step 4. Finally, use metal alphabet dies to spell out the number/date on the Clear Cut sheet. Hold the dies in place with washi and run them through you die cutting machine.
Now they can easily be slipped onto the existing album rings between your pages.
Day 2 in our house is usually still quite fresh with rediscovering Christmas décor. Part of the fun of our Christmas season also includes our Elf on the Shelf. The book is read several times during the early days of December!
Other than a hero shot or main photo to focus on, I've used 2x2 photos and added them to my album, back to back with each other, to include as detail shots. This year we have a few extra nutcrackers in the house!!
The Holly Jolly Christmas collection ephemera paper pieces are perfect!! The cute little paper piece nutcrackers have me grinning from ear to ear! The number two (2) has been created with a metal die using an IF CHRISTmas patterned paper.

Adding pre-made Christmas gift tags between the pages of your album allows for convenient journaling spots. The first tag (as seen above) I have used is a small round one that has been backed with patterned paper and slipped into a confetti style pocket with other ephemera pieces. The expression is perfect to relay a sense of urgency when it comes to unwrapping the Christmas decorations.
The next two tags also help convey the story. The first one quite literally, as I have journalled on the back and placed it in the album, reverse side showing, before you get to see the cuteness of the tag itself.
With the second tag, twine has been added along with some enamel hearts and a Holly Jolly Christmas fundamentals sticker. On the reverse side, instead of leaving blank, I have chosen to use the IF homespun alphabet clear stamps.
Some days need more photos than others. On day 3, my daughter had her annual dance concert. This was her tenth year performing and I wanted to capture so many of these special moments for her to remember.
I have included the journaling on a piece of cardstock with a colour coordinating Tabbie attached for easy access, behind a portrait shot of my girl. It documents the fierce thunderstorm raging during the performance and the five hours we sat watching from the audience!!!
To finish up for the week I am sharing Day 4, where I have used two (2) 4x4 photos. Once again I have journalled directly onto the photo before printing and added a number sticker from The Zoo Crew Treasures&Text collection. Placement of the sticker is essential, as it hides some unwanted back ground scenery in the photo and also draws the eye to the story.
Don't forget to come and visit again next Friday as I share more pages and techniques for completing your December Daily without too much fuss. Of course that doesn't mean you can have fun with the supplies you have on hand! Thanks for visiting and don't forget to leave any questions in the comments section below..x
