"Love My Little Sunshine", by Missy Whidden.
Hey there! Missy back with you today. Do you have a favorite shape you like to use over and over again on your projects? I have several favorites including hearts, circles, squares, triangles, stars and clouds. I like to take one shape and use it repeatedly on a layout. It’s a great way to build a background design, and it can allow you to use lots of patterned papers on a page. I found a cloud cut file I liked and cut several of them on different papers from a few Bella collections. I made them different sizes, and I also cut the outlines of some of them. Once I had them all cut, it didn’t take very long to scatter them on the layout. Most of the planning was done, and I just needed to place my photos. Since I chose clouds, I decided to use a sun ray stencil to create some interest behind the clouds.
Once I had my clouds and photos where I wanted them, I decided I didn’t need a lot more embellishing. The bright colors were popping all over the page, and I just needed to create something below my photos. I knew I couldn’t really use a big title, so I pulled out some Tiny Text stickers and created a small one. When you have a lot of busy things going on, sometimes the title or other clusters or other embellishments might need to be small.
I did some machine stitching in yellow along the sun’s rays for some extra texture and interest. I also added foam dots behind some of the clouds. Just raising up some of your shapes or embellishments can really create a neat effect. I also used some Bella washi tape. I fussy cut those tiny clouds and used a few around the page.
Here’s another look at the background and the clouds. Another tip for creating dimension is not to glue down the entire shape. You can see the outlines of these clouds aren’t all completely flat. I just glued parts of them down so some of them would stick up a bit. I added some tangled thread under some of the clouds to add even more texture and interest.
I added a few clouds under my photos so it appears they’re peeking out from underneath them. I layered in a few stickers and enamel hearts as well in contrasting colors. I also popped up my photos and added a small strip from a Clear Cut under them to add some pops of pink.
For the area here under the photos, I hand cut a small scalloped border from the She Blooms paper and used blue thread to stitch it down. I used multiple colors of Tiny Text to create my small title and then journaled a few lines under it. Lastly, I added a few phrase stickers from the Little Bits sheets.
I hope this inspires you use one of your favorite shapes on a layout! It really does help the layout come together a little quicker and takes out some of the guess work.
