Twice a month, we'll be bringing you a new sketch, and showing you a few takes on the sketch by our designers. Today, we have our first sketch for September, courtesy of Becky Fleck.
“Click”, by Katherine McElvain.
When I looked at this sketch it made me first think of photo booth picture strips. With that in mind, I wanted to use this layout for a time when I had snapped a series of outtakes (with four kids and a couple of dogs out takes happen most times I try to take any kind of group photo). The new Christmas Countdown collection and the new Snapshots collection provided me with everything I needed to create a layout about trying to get the perfect photo for last year’s Christmas card. This sketch challenge was a little outside my box since I usually like quite a bit of white space on my layouts. To adjust the sketch to my style, I used a shrunk down version of the sketch, with less photos and pieces but resembling the original. It was a quick and easy project to put together.
Snapshots: Bookplates, Alpha+Bits, Borders, Daily Details, Free Time; Christmas Countdown: Tree Park; Daily Chevies: Everyday Bookplates; High Five Alpha Stickers: Gulf; Sienna Chipboard Alphas: Punch; Ciao Chip Elements: Trees; Button Market: Pink Flowers
“Hello Happiness”, by Gina Lideros.
I have loved being a part of the Bella Blvd team this year, it is hard to believe this is going to be my last assignment for the term. I wanted to end the year with a sweet and cheerful layout about friendship. The Snapshots collection worked beautifully with the sketch that was given to us. I stuck with the three main vertical columns in the sketch but incorporated bigger boxes so that I could use 4x6 photos. I also used the daily details cards, I love the way they complete the layout.
Snapshots: Borders, Daily Details, My Point Of View, Rise & Shine, Alpha+Bits, Captions, Paper Pieces; Daily Chevies: Arrows Gulf; Crochet Heart: Pickle Juice; Feathers: Punch; Button Market: Pink Flowers, Stars
“New Wheels”, by Malika Kelly.
Usually when I work with a sketch, I stay somewhat close to the design and at the very least use the photo placement. This one was different! I printed off a few pictures according to the sizes on the sketch, played around with them a bit and ventured a little off track! Along with some of picture sizes, I incorporated some scalloped borders, title placement and journaling from the sketch...just not in the exact ways as the original. I love that I could use this sketch as a starting point, but yet my layout turned out completely different.
Snapshots: Free Time, Daily Details, Alpha+Bits, Paper Pieces; Daily Chevies: Chevy Bell Pepper, Chevy Pickle Juice, Arrows Pink, Arrows Pickle Juice, Arrows Gulf; Play Date: Little Birdie; High Five Alpha Stickers: Black-White
We hope you will take some creative time for yourself, and try out our sketch! Whether it's a card, or a layout, we would love to see what you come up with. You can link them here in the comment section, or share them on our Facebook page.
