Step 1: I created an 8x10" collage through Walgreens.com. I know you can also use Snapfish and Shutterfly to create collages like this too. (Or, if you are more technologically savvy than I, you can just make a collage using whatever photo editing software you use!)
Step 2 (altering picture): I cropped the top & bottom edges to even up the border around the collage. Then I added photo corners around the big picture to highlight it more even more. Finally, I ended up not liking one of the pictures on the collage so I covered it up with a scrap of patterned paper. But I have big plans fort hat space later!
Step 3 (cut out flowers & stems): I cut a bunch of fun flowers & leaves out of the Sugar Patch pattern from the Sunny Happy Skies collection. I also used the B-side of the Magic in the Sky pattern to cut stems for my flowers. I ever-so-slightly inked the edges of the stems to help them stand out against the layout. (Just wait until you see what I mean!)
Step 4: I added the collage to a piece of the Linens patterned paper from the Estate Sale Collection and continued to build my layout. I added a title and journaling strips. I added those flowers and stems over the space where I had covered up that picture I didn't like. Can you tell how the ink on the stems helps them stand out better against the busy background?
Viola! Done! It is a completed hybrid layout!
